Useless Bay Beach Cabin

Overview

This energy-efficient beach cabin packs a lot onto its small, challenging site. Durable materials were a requirement for low maintenance and to withstand the harsh beach wind and weather. Energy efficiency is gained with solar panels hidden on the upper roof and vertical geothermal wells under the driveway. Playful detailing and expansive windows create a light-filled retreat with a classic cabin feel.

The home is within the Shoreline buffer as well as a flood zone. Plumbing, electrical and anything other than flood resistant materials are required to be a minimum of five feet above the base flood elevation. Thus, all living areas are elevated to the second floor.

Coffered ceilings and painted ship lap details throughout, give this new home its clean, yet classic beach cabin feel.
